Dutton Ranch Season 2 Filming to Start Early 2027, Kelly Reilly Confirms
Kelly Reilly says Paramount+ spinoff Dutton Ranch will begin Season 2 filming in early 2027, after the series drew 12.9 million global viewers in its first week.
Kelly Reilly has confirmed that filming for Season 2 of Paramount+'s Yellowstone spinoff Dutton Ranch will begin in early 2027. The actress made the announcement during a surprise appearance at the Paramount UK Upfronts in London, where she also spoke about the show's strong start.
Renewal follows a strong debut
Paramount+ renewed Dutton Ranch for a second season in June, ahead of the eighth episode of the first season. The renewal came with two episodes of Season 1 still to stream.
The series debuted in May 2026 and was billed by Paramount+ as its biggest original series launch to date. The company said the show drew 12.9 million viewers worldwide in the seven days after its premiere. Its two-episode debut on Paramount Network also reached 2.9 million total viewers, and the premiere telecast was the top cable entertainment program among adults 18-49 and among total viewers, according to Paramount.
Reilly, a native of the UK, said the response had surprised her. "The response across the world, well I am surprised and grateful," she said. She described the spinoff as a risk the team was proud to take, moving Beth Dutton from the original ranch to a new life in South Texas.
Changes behind the camera
Season 2 will have a new showrunner. Benjamin Cavell, creator of the military drama SEAL Team, will take over as showrunner and executive producer after Chad Feehan departed. Feehan left the series just three weeks before the Season 1 premiere, according to Decider. ScreenRant reported that Feehan was let go after clashing with some cast and crew members; this has not been officially confirmed.
Reilly told The Hollywood Reporter in July that the writers' room would start up quickly and that the months ahead would be devoted mainly to writing. Cole Hauser, who plays Rip Wheeler, is also an executive producer on the series. Decider reported that Hauser is not leaving the show.
Cast and storylines to watch
The series stars Reilly and Hauser alongside Annette Bening, Ed Harris, Juan Pablo Raba, Jai Courtney, Natalie Alyn Lind, Marc Menchaca and others. The first season ended with Carter, played by Finn Little, abducted, a cliffhanger that puts Beth and Rip back into action. Season 1 also set up a family drug operation that Beulah Jackson, played by Bening, begins to reveal.
Reilly's comments came at an event where Paramount executives also promoted other projects. Jez Butterworth's Paramount+ drama Laird, starring Kenneth Branagh and Peter Sarsgaard, showed first-look images. The Paramount UK Upfronts also featured a preview of Beckham & Friends' Champions League coverage, which Paramount+ is set to bring to the UK and Germany from next year.
What we know so far
No premiere date for Season 2 has been announced. If filming starts in early 2027 as planned, new episodes could arrive before the end of 2027, though no release window has been confirmed. Decider noted that Luke Grimes and Ash Santos have spoken about a possible crossover with the sister series Marshals, but no such crossover has been announced.
