Zach Charbonnet Activated Off PUP List as Seahawks Eye Return vs. Chiefs
Seahawks running back Zach Charbonnet was activated off the PUP list and took a second straight full practice, putting a possible season debut in play for Sunday night against the Chiefs.
Seattle Seahawks running back Zach Charbonnet was activated off the physically unable to perform list on Thursday and has now been a full participant in practice for two straight days, according to ESPN and Seattle Sports. The development puts the knee-injured back on track for a possible season debut in Sunday night's game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Charbonnet's path back from ACL surgery
Charbonnet is working back from ACL surgery he underwent in February. His 21-day practice window ended Thursday, which meant the Seahawks had to either add him to the 53-man roster or keep him on the PUP list for the rest of the season. The team chose to activate him.
Head coach Mike Macdonald said earlier in the week there is a "possibility" Charbonnet could play "in some capacity" on Sunday night. USA Today noted that Thursday's full practice, on Oct. 22, makes a debut possible, but that he is unlikely to be the top option in the Seattle backfield right away.
Other Seahawks injury updates
Right guard Anthony Bradford, who has missed the past five games and is on injured reserve, also progressed to full participation Thursday after being limited Wednesday. Macdonald said Bradford could return for Sunday night if he has a good week of practice.
Wide receiver Rashid Shaheed (hip), backup linebacker Tyrice Knight (oblique) and backup guard Beau Stephens (knee) each moved to full participation after being limited on Wednesday.
The news was less positive for several others. Edge rushers DeMarcus Lawrence (knee) and Uchenna Nwosu (hip) were both listed as limited with new injuries. Linebacker Drake Thomas (ankle) missed practice again, putting him at risk of missing a second straight game.
What comes next
Charbonnet's usage will be a key storyline to watch if he plays on Sunday, with reports indicating he is not expected to start in his first game back. Bradford's status and the health of Lawrence, Nwosu and Thomas will be tracked through the rest of the practice week leading into the matchup with the Chiefs.
What we know so far: Charbonnet is active, has practiced in full two days in a row, and is considered a possible contributor against Kansas City.
