Rallye du Maroc 2026 Starts in Agadir With Loeb Three Points Clear of Al-Attiyah

Rallye du Maroc 2026 began in Agadir on Monday 28 September, the opening day of the 27th edition, and runs until Saturday 3 October in Zagora. Around 300 competitors from 47 countries are taking part in a round of the FIA-FIM World Rally-Raid Championship.

The title fight

In the car category, Sebastien Loeb arrives leading the world championship with only three points over Nasser Al-Attiyah. Loeb is also the defending winner in Morocco. The car entry list includes Al-Attiyah, Sainz and Peterhansel, and the field is billed as a rehearsal for the Dakar.

The route

The opening day featured the prologue for bikes and quads and preparatory runs for cars and trucks. On Tuesday, the first timed stage covers 268 kilometres from Agadir to Zagora. Four loop stages around Zagora follow until the finish on Saturday 3 October, where trophies will be presented. Rallye Infos notes that the prologue is 18 kilometres long, and that the first day totals 636 kilometres including the 268-kilometre timed section.

By the numbers

According to Rallye Infos, 139 car crews are entered, and the route covers 2,701 kilometres in total, including 1,593 kilometres of timed special stages.

What is new in 2026

This is the first edition under Pro Dunes ownership, led by Marc Coma, and it introduces a new Rallye du Maroc Classic. The car competitors also take part in a shakedown open to the public, an idea borrowed from the WRC.

Why this round matters

The rally is the penultimate round of the 2026 championship, because the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge was moved to November. The championship organisers note that a maximum of 55 points is available in the car category and 25 in the bike category, so a strong result here could be decisive.
